Anvil [an·vil]

Old English anfilte, from the Germanic base of on + a verbal stem meaning ‘beat’.

“A metalworking tool consisting of a large block of metal (usually forged or cast steel), with a flattened top surface, upon which another object is struck.”

A piece of history, redesigned.

The Anvil

“Anvils were first made of stone as a lithic stone tool, before being made from wrought iron. The majority of anvils found today are based on the London pattern anvil of the mid-19th century, during a time when the anvil was an absolute necessity.

The ultimate test of strength.

“Anvil firing” was the process of igniting black gunpowder under the anvil until it was shot into the air up to 100 feet. This was done in order to test its strength before being sold for use as a tool used by blacksmiths.
